SAMPLE TRIP ITINERARY

(subject to change due to factors such as lodging availability, restaurant availability and ferry schedules)

Day 1 - Cycle San Juan Island's South End

We will meet your family at our shop in Friday Harbor located at 40 Spring Street, just steps from the ferry terminal and shuttle the group to our starting point, at the edge of town. Our guide will get you geared up and give you a safety lesson, then we will head out along San Juan Valley Road to False Bay Road. We cycle past False Bay with the Olympic Mountains as your backdrop. False Bay turns into a massive exposed intertidal zone at low tide, perfect for exploring the tide pools or digging your toes into the mud. This quiet country road has idyllic vistas of the Haro Strait and working farmland.

From False Bay, we will cycle out Cattle Point Road towards the south end of San Juan Island. This route takes us through American Camp which is a National Historic Park. Here at Cattle Point you can hike or bike through fields looking for fox, rabbits, and bald eagles or trek down to one of the small coves found along the way. We will take a break at a small picnic area overlooking the waters of Cattle Pass. You can check out the beaches as your guide prepares a delicious and nutritious picnic lunch. Afterwards we will cycle back along Cattle Point Road, this time with views of Vancouver Island to the northwest.

If your family is up for more distance, we can cycle around Pear Point Road. This route leads us past Jacksons Beach loaded with driftwood and beach tresures; a perfect outdoor setting for your kids to play for a bit. After you turn your bike in for the day, indulge in a happy hour beverage and enjoy the views over the Sound.

Day 2 - Cycle the San Juan Island Loop

This morning we will cycle quiet country roads to the Lavender Farm. Here you can walk through the fields with your kids and try some of the foods or sweet smelling lavender products made here.

We journey on to Lime Kiln State Park for a picnic lunch. You can check out tide pools and a lighthouse while your guide prepares lunch. If you are really lucky, you may see a pod of orcas passing by. Afterwards, we cycle north visiting an Alpaca Farm and an English garden at British Camp. If you are up for a hike through the woods, your guide can take you to the top of Mount Young for a scenic view and then follow the grassy winding trail back down.

Our route leads to Roche Harbor for an afternoon ice cream and to walk the docks of its beautiful marina. Roche Harbor is a quaint village with artist kiosks to check out, English gardens to explore, a sculpture park to walk through, and a very unique mausoleum for the adventurous. Before heading back toward town, explore the scenic roads of White Point. This route will take you past Westcott Bay to the shores of Westcott Bay Shellfish Co where you can sample oysters at the local oyster farm and cool off with a cold beverage. From here you can either jump in our shuttle or keep cycling back to Friday Harbor.

Day 3 - Go Sea Kayaking or Whale Watching

Today we will either shuttle your family to the beautiful Westside of San Juan Island for a day of sea kayaking, or you may choose to go on a whale watch wildlife cruise aboard the Odyssey.

The day of kayaking includes a kayak safety lesson before you begin paddling along the evergreen cloaked coastline. As we journey down the coast, we'll stop for lunch along a beach where you can search for creatures in the tide pools, look for sea glass among the pebbles or simply soak in the scenery. After lunch we will head back out on the water in search of orcas and eagles.

If you choose the whale watch cruise, your family will spend the afternoon cruising the San Juan Islands while parents can sit back and relax in comfort as the personable onboard naturalists share their depth of knowledge on the local whales and wildlife. A picnic lunch prepared by your guide will be served while you are on the boat. This vessel is very family friendly with coloring and books for the small kids, and binoculars and chatting with the captain and naturalists for the older kids.Afterwards, your guide will bring you back to Friday Harbor. Tonight, you will have time to explore town on your own.

* Please Note: Dinner on this night of this trip is not included in the price of the tour.

Day 4 - Cycle Orcas Island

This morning we will take the ferry to Orcas Island. The ferry ride lasts about 40 minutes and offers beautiful views of San Juan Channel and the Wasp Islands. Once we arrive to Orcas Island, we will cycle towards West Harbor. This wild flower lined road eventually leads inland taking us along the forested edge of Crow Valley which sits at the base of Turtleback Mountain. Along the way we’ll check out Orcas Island Pottery where you can find beautiful and unique pottery handcrafted by local artists.

We will stop in Eastsound (a small village), where your guides will prepare a fresh and delicious lunch while you explore the shops and sites of Eastsound. From here we cycle to Moran State Park; Washington's first state park. Here you can swim in cool mountain lakes, hike down to a waterfall for a quick dip, cycle the 5.5 mile climb to the summit of Mount Constitution, or call it a day and climb in the van for a ride to the top. At 2,407 feet the summit of Mount Constitution is the highest point in the San Juan Islands and offers spectacular views of Mount Baker to the east and the San Juan Archipelago in all directions. Afterwards, we will take you to your inn where you can relax before dinner.

Day 5 - Cycle Lopez Island

Today will take the ferry to the neighboring island of Lopez. The ferry takes about 40 minutes to travel around Shaw Island. Keep an eye out for whales, seals, eagles and even possibly swimming deer! We will cycle from the ferry landing along a forested road that quickly opens up to views of the majestic Olympic Mountains. Our first stop will be in the small village of Lopez. This is a good place to grab a morning coffee or a freshly baked pastry from the amazing Holly B's Bakery.

We then cycle toward Shark Reef County Park for a picnic lunch. While your guide prepares your food, you can take your family for a walk to the water. The trail brings you through a beautiful forest and pops you out on the rocky southwest shore looking over turbulent Cattle Pass toward San Juan Island and the Olympic Mountains. You may spot several harbor seals on Shark Reef.

We stop along the route at Agate beach to enjoy the views of the Iceberg Islands and a classic northwest pebble beach. Explore this beautiful beach loaded with perfect skipping rocks. If time allows, make the walk to Iceberg Point, it is one of the most beautiful places on Lopez Island. To finish the bike route, we head north, through the center of Lopez Island to Spencer Spit. Here you will find a state park with a sandy beach, interpretive displays, and a marsh lagoon to check out. Cycle past the quiet northern bays and a witness plentiful waterfowl. We end the trip at the ferry landing where you can say your goodbyes until your next trip!
