TRIP ITINERARY

Day 1 - Cycle the South End of San Juan Island

We will meet you at our shop in Friday Harbor located at 40 Spring Street, just steps from the ferry terminal and shuttle the group to our starting point, just outside of downtown. After we gear up and have a safety lesson, we head out along San Juan Valley Road where you can enjoy the quiet calm of island pastures and wildflowers. We cycle past False Bay with the Olympic Mountains in the background. False Bay turns into a massive exposed intertidal zone at low tide, perfect for exploring the tide pools or digging your toes into the mud. From False Bay, we will cycle to American Camp; a National Historic Park. It is very common to see fox, deer, rabbits, and bald eagles while bicycling or walking along the tall grassy trails. You can hike down to one of the small coves found along the way.

Your guide will prepare a delicious lunch at Cattle Pass which is the southern-most point on San Juan island. Cycle back along Cattle Point Road, this time with views of Vancouver Island to the northwest. For additional distance and stunning views, we can cycle around Pear Point. This route leads us past Jacksons Beach; well known for it's calm shallow shoreline and naturally made washed up treasures such as driftwood, bull kelp, and shells. Once back to Friday Harbor, you can turn your bike in for the day, indulge in a happy hour beverage and enjoy the views over the Puget Sound.

Day 2 - Cycle the San Juan Island Loop

Enjoy eating fresh local dishes for breakfast at your inn and then get ready to explore more of San Juan Island, stopping at a Lavender Farm first. Here you can take photos and walk among the purple patches of lavender. You can check out the edible and non-edible products made here at this beautiful farm.

We hop back on our bikes to ride towards Whale Watch Park. Your guide will prepare a delicious picnic while you explore the lighthouse and trails of Lime Kiln State Park. Afterwards, we cycle north visiting the Kristal Acres Alpaca Farm..

This afternoon we will check out Roche Harbor for an afternoon coffee or ice cream and walk the docks of its beautiful marina. Roche Harbor is a quaint village with artist kiosks to check out, English gardens to explore, a sculpture park to walk through, and a very unique mausoleum for the adventurous.

Before heading back toward town, explore the scenic roads of White Point. This route will take you along a narrow country road to the shores of Westcott Bay where we will stop at the Gin Distillery for a tasting and Westcott Bay Shellfish Co where you can sample oysters and enjoy cool beverages at the local oyster farm. You can either continue on bike, or catch a ride back to Friday Harbor from here.

Day 3 - Go Sea Kayaking or Whale Watching

This morning you will find the breakfast menu offers something for everyone. This will give you the energy you need for your day on the water. We will either shuttle you to the beautiful Westside of San Juan Island for a day of sea kayaking or you may choose to go on a whale watch wildlife cruise aboard the Odyssey.

The day of kayaking includes a kayak safety lesson before you begin paddling along the evergreen cloaked coastline. As we journey down the coast, we'll stop for lunch along a beach where you can search for creatures in the tide pools, look for sea glass among the pebbles or simply soak in the scenery. After lunch we will head back out on the water in search of orcas and eagles.

If you choose the whale watch cruise, you will spend the afternoon cruising the San Juan Islands while you sit back and relax in comfort as the personable onboard naturalists share their depth of knowledge on the local whales and wildlife. A picnic lunch prepared by your guide will be served while you are on the boat.

* Please Note: Dinner on this night of this trip is not included in the price of the tour.

Day 4 - Cycle Orcas Island

After your final breakfast at the inn, we hop onto the ferry to Orcas Island. The ferry ride lasts about 40 minutes and offers beautiful views of San Juan Channel and the Wasp Islands. Once on Orcas Island your guide will lead you along wildflower lined country roads headed towards West Harbor.

We then head inland along a forested road, cycling past the base of Turtleback Mountain. Along the way we’ll check out Orcas Island Pottery where you can find beautiful and unique pottery handcrafted by local artists. Once in Eastsound (a small village), your guide will prepare a fresh and delicious picnic lunch while you explore the village shops and sites.

After lunch we will head into Moran State Park. Bring your swimming suit and swim in a crisp mountain lake or take a dip under a waterfall. Cycle the 5.5 mile climb to the summit of Mount Constitution or climb in the van for a ride to the top. At 2,407 feet the summit of Mount Constitution is the highest point in the San Juan Islands and offers spectacular views of Mount Baker to the east and the San Juan Archipelago in all directions. After exploring Moran State Park, we will transport you to the ferry landing where we will say goodbye until your next adventure!
